02. Schedule for the Third Soil Survey
One year for pilot, two years for expansion, one year for conclusion
· 2022: Initiate the third national soil survey, complete the formulation of technical procedures, construction of work platforms, planning and layout of field sampling points, and training and publicity. Select several counties in 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) for comprehensive pilot projects. Conduct saline-alkali land surveys in key areas and complete a comprehensive saline-alkali land survey.
· 2023-2024: All provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) will fully carry out the survey, completing all field sampling and laboratory testing by the end of 2024. Initially establish provincial soil survey databases and sample libraries.
· 2025: Complete the summary and acceptance of provincial survey results, initially establish a national database and sample library, form national arable land quality reports and soil suitability evaluation reports, and compile various results of the national soil survey.
Purpose and Significance of the Third Soil Survey
· The soil survey is an important method to identify soil types and distribution patterns, and to ascertain the quantity and quality of soil resources. The survey results can provide scientific support for soil classification, planning, utilization, improvement, fertilization, protection, and management. They can also provide a basis for the formulation of major policies for economic, social, and ecological construction.
Targets of the Third Soil Survey
Cover all arable land, orchards, forests, grasslands, and some unused land within the entire jurisdiction; highlight land related to food production in forests and grasslands; focus on investigating saline-alkali land
