GB 28050-2025 Changes and Service Plans

On March 16th, 2025, the National Health Commission and the State Administration of Market Supervision issued the General Principles of Nutrition Labeling in Prepackaged Foods (GB 28050-2025), which will be officially implemented on March 16th, 2027, replacing GB 28050-2011.

 

Revisions of the Standard

I. Expansion of Mandatory Labeling Items

The mandatory labeling items in the nutrient composition table were changed from "1+4" to "1+6", and the mandatory labeling of saturated fat (acid) and sugar was added to help consumers reasonably choose food and improve the diet with high salt, high fat and high sugar.

II. Prompt Words Added

Prepackaged foods is required to mark the prompt "Children and adolescents should avoid excessive intake of salt, oil and sugar" at the bottom of the nutrient composition table, and implement the requirements of three reductions and Law on the Protection of Minors.

According to the new edition of Reference Intake of Dietary Nutrients for China Residents, some nutrient reference values were adjusted.

IV. Claiming Language Revision

Revise some nutrition claim conditions and standard terms of nutrition component function claim to ensure scientificity and practicality, and add warning terms such as long-term excessive intake of salt, fat and sugar.

V. Other Revisions

Add definitions and calculation methods of terms such as energy and protein; Two new standard formats of nutrition labels were added; Add "prepackaged foods component reference value" and so on.

 

Changes and Highlights of Nutrition Labels on Food Packaging

I. More Comprehensive Information

Consumers can get more nutritional information from the label, especially the content of saturated fat (acid) and sugar, which can help healthy diet choice.

II. Clearer Guidance

The prompt of "salt, oil and sugar" highlights the guidance of healthy eating for children and adolescents.

III. Three More Diverse Forms

Enterprises are allowed to supplement the nutrition label with graphics, words and other intuitive ways, such as replacing "kilojoule" with "card" and using the pagoda graphics of dietary guidelines.
