Food Safety Law Draft Amendment Submitted to NPC for First Deliberation
On June 24, 2025, the much-anticipated draft amendment to the Food Safety Law was submitted to the 16th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress for first deliberation. This amendment adopts a "targeted" approach, focusing on the supervision of road bulk transportation of liquid food and infant formula liquid milk, sending an important signal to fill the regulatory gaps and firmly safeguard food safety standards.
From farm to table, 'safety on the tip of the tongue' concerns public health. As the basic law of food safety governance, the Food Safety Law has established a fundamental, comprehensive, and long-term regulatory frameworks for China's food safety system.
The current Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China was implemented in 2009, comprehensively revised in 2015, and revised twice in 2018 and 2021. This year, the revision of the law will be launched again, aiming to actively respond to the new challenges and emerging issues arising from the rapid development of the food industry in recent years.
